ProJeCt’s Emergency Assistance Programs, ASSIST and the Interfaith Food Pantry, work in tandem to provide emergency interventions for families and individuals in crisis, and to implement case management plans to move them toward greater self-sufficiency. An Emergency Assistance Program staff person is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to handle emergency shelter needs. |

All income-qualified clients can also receive food from ProJeCt’s Interfaith Food Pantry, the largest food pantry in Northampton County. Each month, the food pantry provides two-to-three day supplies of food to more than 400 households. Last year, the food pantry distributed two-to-three day supplies of food to almost 1,700 individuals in 961 households. The overwhelming majority of these families (86%) lived at or below the national poverty level. One hundred and thirty-five families reported that they were homeless at the time of their first contact with ProJeCt. |

When clients have exhausted all other avenues of support, ASSIST provides emergency vouchers for goods and services such as prescription medicines, emergency shelter, eyeglasses, home heating oil, work clothing, baby care needs, and local transportation. Because we recognize that crisis intervention by itself does not address the fundamental causes of poverty, hunger and homelessness, ASSIST often serves as a portal to other agency services designed to help people help themselves. |
