Since 1993, ProJeCt’s SIZZLE!® summer literacy day camp has been helping children in grades K through six prevent summer learning loss using a variety of structured cross-curricular activities.

"Learning Loss" becomes a problem when children do not participate in reading and creative activities during the summer months.

This free camp offers high quality, structured learning opportunities to academically at-risk children who would benefit most. SIZZLE!® also encourages parents and children to read and learn together throughout the summer.

Parental support for learning and literacy is the most powerful predictor of a child’s later success.
Lesson plans and take-home parent/child activities are based on Pennsylvania State Standards. Certified teachers and trained paraprofessionals offer high-quality instruction. Reading Specialists work with students to develop the reading skills they need to succeed in school. Reading strategies for parental use at home are shared, while take-home activities linked to an incentive program encourage entire families to become active participants in the child(ren)’s learning. Weekly parent/child activities provide families with time to practice the skills they need to work productively together. The program also helps build second language proficiency for parents and children whose first language is not English.
